How to clean glass without streaks or haze
Quick answer: for streak-free glass, use two microfibre cloths (one to clean, one dry cloth to buff), spray just enough, wipe from top to bottom, don’t use paper and avoid cleaning in direct sun, which dries the solution too fast and leaves streaks.
Why does glass end up streaky or hazy?
- Newspaper or toilet paper: leaves lint and streaks.
- Too much spray: the solution runs and dries into streaks.
- Strong sun: hot glass dries the solution before you can wipe it.
- Dirty cloths: wiping again and again just moves dust and grease around.
- Greasy glass (kitchen glass, doors near the stove): needs two passes.
Glass doors and windows
- Dust off frames and tracks first.
- Spray glass cleaner onto one section; it doesn’t need to be soaking wet.
- Wipe with a microfibre cloth in a zigzag from top to bottom.
- Buff with a second, dry cloth.
- Check against the light and re-buff any streaks.
Bathroom mirrors
- Clean once the steam has cleared.
- Spray onto the cloth rather than the mirror if it’s near sockets or wooden cabinets.
- Hard-water marks built up over time may need several passes.
Kitchen and greasy glass
- Wipe first with a damp cloth and a little dishwashing liquid to remove grease.
- Wipe again with clean water and let it dry.
- Finish with glass cleaner and a dry cloth to buff.
